"The impact of oropharyngeal dysphagia and dysphonia on health-related quality of life in Parkinson’s disease"

Voice and swallowing disturbances are common in patients with Parkinson’s disease. This thesis highlights the impact voice and swallowing disturbances have on the quality of life of patients with Parkinson’s disease. First, the importance of patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) was investigated for voice and swallowing disturbances. With this, in this thesis, the MDADI questionnaire was validated in Dutch for patients with swallowing complaints of a neurogenic origin. Second, this thesis gives an update on the treatment modalities of voice and swallowing disturbances in Parkinson’s disease. Especially surface electrical stimulation of the neck.
