"School-Based Smoking Prevention Intervention for Saudi Male Adolescents"
The school-based smoking prevention intervention for Saudi Male Adolescents is an anti-smoking program designed to prevent Saudi adolescents aged 11-16 to start smoking. Ten schools were selected randomly and assigned for the intervention. Similarly, nine schools were selected as a control group. The intervention followed an interactive learning approach, in which students participated in a role-play aimed at strengthening adolescents’ self-efficacy to resist pressure from others to smoke. The program consisted of five lessons, each with 2-3 activities, preceded by group-work and team leading skills training. Six months after the intervention, the intervention group showed a more positive attitude, higher self-efficacy, and higher intention not to smoke. Smoking initiation in the intervention group was only 3.2% in comparison to 8.8% in the control group.
