Next steps: master’s programmmes
The BA DS is a three-year academic bachelor programme that provides you with a strong foundation for a more advanced academic degree. The interdisciplinarity of our programme is well-reflected in the wide variety of master’s programmes that our graduates get access to (see list). But, typically, most of our graduates pursue a master’s programme in one of four directions (although many other directions are possible too): Humanities and media studies, Policy and ethics, Business and creative industries, Quantitative social sciences and data science. See below for a list of examples
Humanities and media studies
MA in Media Studies: Digital Cultures (Maastricht University, FASoS)
- MA in Digital Humanities (Groningen University)
- MA in New Media & Digital Culture (University of Amsterdam)
Policy and ethics
- MA in Data & AI Ethics (University of Edinburgh)
- MA in Digital Technologies & policy (University College London)
Business and creative industries

At Maastricht University three official follow-up trajectories can be pursued for graduates of the BA Digital Society. For these three programmes, you can be directly admitted without extra requirements or motivation letters—graduating from the BADS is your entry ticket.
MA in Media Studies: Digital Cultures
MSc in Digital Business and Economics
MSc in Business Intelligence and Smart Services
Next steps: Careers
Bachelor Digital Society graduates have successfully landed jobs in a wide variety of fields ranging from data and AI consultant, to policy analyst and advisor, to software engineer. In their jobs, BA DS alumni are often part of interdisciplinary teams, applying the unique BA DS combination of critical thinking, creative attitudes and collaborative mindset whilst considering the social and ethical considerations of the digital technologies they work with or develop (Think. Do. Care). In general, we have seen most BA Digital Society graduates pursuing careers in the direction of these four personas:

- The tech consultant with an eye for ethics
- The creative leader, with a touch for social and environmental good
- The digital policy maven, with a nose for nuance
- The data detective, with a sense for stories

From campus to career: our graduates in the field
While DS is a young programme, our graduates are already making waves in their respective industries. Hear from our alumni who are now digital transformation and innovation specialists, project managers, software engineers and digital consultants. From ING to Siemens to Microsoft (among others), our graduates are involved in meaningful projects, applying their digital skills with responsibility, care, and criticality.
“Digital Society really taught me to have an interdisciplinary approach. I am currently working on a daily basis with lawyers and engineers. The mindset I developed during this programme is crucial.”
Sara Loffredo, Product Management Junior Consultant @ Siemens, BADS ‘22
Tara Miranović

Wouter van Elteren, Software Engineer ING
Year of graduation: 2022
“ING is investing heavily in AI and to get these AI mods in production, we have to be both ethically sound and legally compliant. We have a lot of teams here, and I do a lot of cross-collaboration. As a Digital Society student who has a high-level understanding of all the aspects, I can be the glue between the teams.”

Carla Beranger, Technical Specialist Microsoft
Year of graduation: 2022
“What I really loved about the bachelor is PBL, which helped me acquire debate skills, argumentation, collaboration, understanding how important it is to talk to different people within different roles. A lot of the time I need to consider the views of the end users of the solutions that are created using my software, but also the decision makers: ‘When you think about technologies, how can you think about both the benefits but also the impacts that it has? How can you be critical about the way you’re using these technologies?"

Amelie Soares
