Career history
Esperanza Buitrago works at the Maastricht Center for Taxation at Maastricht University. Born and raised as legal adviser, she worked in practice from 1991 till 1999, and started to pursue an academic career in May 1996. Her main knowledge and experiences are in the transfers of technology from a tax and trade law perspectives. She also has a good understanding of trade and banking law due to her work and LLMs on those fields. Over the last 15 years her focus is on International Taxation.
Before she came to Maastricht University she was associate professor at Rosario University and Subdirectot of the Tax Law Department at the same University. Previuosly she worked a number of years for La Sabana University, Buitrago & Mora, Suarez & Metke Law Firm, and the Legal Department of Banco del Estado in Colombia.
She has been visiting professor of a number of Universities, e.g. Cantabria (Spain), Peking (China), Guangzhou (China), Externado (Colombia), Buenos Aires (Argentina). She is Alumni of the Max Planck Institute for Tax Law and Public Finance (Germany).
