Maastricht University, and therefore M-EPLI is actively participating in the Ius Commune Research School, an international research school between the universities of Maastricht, Utrecht, Leuven and Amsterdam. With these partners and in close cooperation with researchers from the university of Edinburgh, Liege and Stellenbosch we have been working on comparative and European research in the past 15 years.

Every now and then our research is evaluated and every 5 years the research school must apply for re-recognition in order to keep its name as a recognized research school.

In the past year, the research of the research school was subject to a mid-term review. M-EPLI’s researchers actively participated in this review as many M-EPLI fellows function as a (coordinating) programme leader in the research school.

We are proud to report that the private law research was excellently evaluated with a 4.8/5 (contract law), 4.6/5 (property law), and 4.5/5 (procedural law). The mid-term committee also commends our efforts to innovate these programs as we move from a more traditional comparative to more European private law scholarship. M-EPLI fellows Smits, Van Erp, Van Rhee, Kornet and myself actively work with our colleagues to shape the future of Ius Commune research.

The report of the evaluation committee is unfortunately only available in Dutch and can (soon) be consulted on the Ius Commune Research School website www.iuscommune.eu.
