Die omgang met het Romeinse recht heeft er bijvoorbeeld voor gezorgd dat het recht op het Europese vasteland aanzienlijk verschilt van het Engelse recht, de common law. Het Romeinse recht heeft dus mee de geschiedenis van Europa helpen te bepalen. Wij zullen in deze korte cursus vooral gaan letten op de formele invloed van het Romeinse recht, en op welke manier dat de omgang met het recht in Europa heeft bepaald.
