Business impact

Many department members are engaged in working with the industry. Forms of engagement are diverse and cross our education and research. The close collaboration with the Service Science Factory (SSF) of Maastricht University, connecting industry with academic projects -with help of service design thinking, has proven to be valuable for many involved participants. More recently, the department developed the Brightlands Institute for Supply Chain Innovation (BISCI) bridging research and practice around supply chain innovation with the involvement of industry, experts and academia. Other department links include the Brightlands Smart Services Campus in Heerlen with research around Data Science.

Many companies seek advice from the department, and companies serve as guest speakers and provide cases for education. In one example a large number of student teams develop innovations companies in Limburg by means of a business hackathon.

Industry is providing necessary knowledge as well to secure the relevance of our (future) research. Companies featuring collaborative research include APG, Canon, Siemens, Deutsche Telekom, DSM, Philips, Friesland Campina, Henkel, Seacon and many more. Moreover, countless regional businesses and public organizations found their way to Marketing and Supply Chain Management research and education.

Organisations also benefit from our expertise and infrastructure of a Digital Experience Lab. AR/VR applications, human sensors, eye-tracking devices and web-based applications are employed to create and improve digital marketing communication of and processes in companies and institutions.
