Meet the people behind MosaBiome
David Barnett
David supports MosaBiome with expertise in bioinformatics, biostatistics, and reproducible bioinformatic pipelines.
He developed microViz, a widely used R package for microbiome data analysis, and provides training in microbiome bioinformatics. His prior work includes statistical analysis of population cohorts, clinical studies, and experimental models.

Background:
David holds a PhD in human microbiome research, with degrees in epidemiology and biomedical science.

Gianluca Galazzo
Gianluca specialise in longitudinal statistical methods for microbiome research. At MosaBiome, he develops and executes robust and reproducible analysis plans tailored to microbiome projects. His expertise covers R programming, multivariate analysis, longitudinal study design, metagenomics, metabolomics, and advanced data visualisation.

Background:
Gianluca holds degrees in Molecular Biotechnology and Bioinformatics from the University of Bologna and earned his PhD in microbiome research at Maastricht UMC+. After his PhD, Gianluca worked as a bioinformatics scientist in the biotech and pharmaceutical sector, gaining further experience in translational research.
Research Bioinformatician | BioIT & Statistical Analysis
Lars Maassen
Lars is a laboratory specialist with expertise in sample processing, sequencing, and quality assurance. At MosaBiome, he leads the wet-lab and data generation aspects of research support, including library preparation, quality control, and sequencing.
His professional background spans diagnostic R&D (PCR-based assays under ISO 13485 certification) and quality management systems under European IVDR. At MosaBiome, he also develops and maintains Standard Operating Procedures to ensure compliance and reliability in laboratory processes.

- Quality assurance and regulatory compliance (ISO, IVDR)
- Data integrity from sample to sequencing output
- Laboratory process optimisation and SOP development
Background:
He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Biology and a Master’s in Biomedical Sciences, with extensive lab experience including an Erasmus research internship at Uppsala University.
