Diabetes and Metabolism

Within the Department of Nutrition and Movement Sciences, the Diabetes and Metabolism Research Group represents an interdisciplinary team performing cutting-edge translational research to elucidate the mechanisms underlying the pathogenesis of type 2 diabetes and related metabolic disorders as well as develeop and test novel strategies to prevent and/or treat type 2 diabetes.

The focus of the group is on human experimental intervention studies in volunteers with a range in metabolic health (from young healthy volunteers to type 2 diabetes patients and elderly). The diabetes and metabolism research group is a collaboration with the Department of Radiology of the Maastricht University Medical Center involving the development and application in human trials of novel non-invasive imaging techniques (MRI, MRS, PET).
