The Day after Public.Resource.Org v Commission

On June 28th, as part of the UM Brussels Hub's mission to support and build networks and to facilitate community-led meetings, the Hub hosted the Globalization and Law Network event titled "The Day after Public.Resource.Org v Commission: A New Era for the Openness and Copyright of Standards Referenced in EU Law?" This event was designed to bring together a diverse range of stakeholders to discuss and analyse the legal and practical implications of this judgement. The discussion delved into the implications for the accessibility of standards referenced in EU law and examined the impact on the copyright framework governing standardisation organisations. Furthermore, it considered the practical implications for the European Standardisation System and its stakeholders.

Delegation of FHML executives visit Brussels

On the 24th of April the UM Brussels Hub welcomed a delegation composed of the vice-dean of research, the directors of the FHML institutes, and senior advisors. The Hub regularly supports the establishment of contacts with (high-level) EU policy makers in research and innovation. For example, for this particular programme, together with the funding advisors, the UM Brussels team created a full-day program filled with meetings with experts and representatives in the field of European research and health policy. Their Brussels visit began with a discussion with representatives from the Permanent Representation of the Netherlands to the EU, including Petra Smits (Head of the Department for Research & Innovation, Space, and Atomic Questions) and Dolf Grasveld (Research & Innovation Attaché), followed by a presentation by Iordanis Arzimanoglou (Programme Manager Health & Biotech portfolio at the European Innovation Council).

SBE Brussels trip

On the April 15 the Hub team had the pleasure of welcoming SBE MSc students (MSc EFR, MSc Economics, MSc Economics and Strategy in Emerging Markets, MSc Human Decision Science, MSc Financial Economics). Over the past weeks, the Brussels Hub team and SBE program leaders have been hard at work creating an educational programme tailored to the unique needs and interests of UM SBE students. This involved collaboration with experts from the European Commission and the European Parliament, as well as tapping into the pool of SBE alumni based in Brussels. The day commenced with a lecture by Giulia Del Brenna from the European Commission, followed by insightful discussions and networking with SBE alumni representing diverse professional roles. A guided tour of the European Parliament provided firsthand insights into EU decision-making. MEP Jan Ovelgönne concluded the day with an inspiring talk, sparking engaging discussions on career paths. The event wrapped up with networking at Place Luxembourg.
