Get involved!
The University Council represents the students and staff of the University to the Executive Board. As such, it is as transparent as possible, and welcomes interest from the community. Meetings are generally public, most documents are freely available, and there are opportunities to address the Council. We have listed several options below.
Speakers' Quarter
The University Council wants to hear from you. Any member of the UM community, staff or student, can ask to address the University Council during the Speakers' Quarter to draw attention to issues that they feel the Council should know about. If you would like to address the Council during the Speakers' Quarter, please sign up at least 24 hours before the start of the meeting by submitting your name and request to the registry at
Become a member of the University Council
If you want to be more actively involved and become a member of the University Council, you can run in the elections. They are held every year for students, and every two years for staff-members. The elections are organised by the Elections Office.
The University Council elections use a list-system, with most members elected as members of parties. Seats are distributed based on the total number of votes a list receives.
Vote
Even if you're not a part of the University Council, you can still let your voice be heard. It's easy: just come to the elections and vote.

You can read about the elections on the Elections Office page, or read the FAQ on voting.
