The Cognitive Neuroscience (CN) department in Maastricht combines research and education in human perception and cognition with the development of advanced methods in neuroscience. 

The Department of Methodology and Statistics of the Faculty of Psychology and Neuroscience (FPN) works in close collaboration with the Department of Methodology and Statistics of the Faculty of Health Medicine and Life Sciences (FHML) under common leadership. Together we are a group of around 20 staff members from PhD student to Professor. We provide the statistics education in five different Bachelor programmes and various master and PhD courses in the FPN and FHML. We also give statistical advice and support in data analyses to researchers from both faculties. Initially our own statistical research focused on study design and methods of analysis for nested and longitudinal data, in particular on sample size calculations and mixed (multilevel) regression analysis. In the last years our scope has broadened to include methods for multilevel interrater agreement and reliability, multiple imputation methods for missing data, Bayesian statistics for high-dimensional data, and innovative methods for growth curve analysis and for detecting person-situation interactions.

Myrthe Velter holds a Master in Sustainability Science & Policy and graduated cum laude at ICIS in 2016.

Dr Verena Bitzer is an interdisciplinary social scientist working on the nexus of governance and international development.

Jo Coenen (Heerlen, 1949) graduated in architecture & urban planning from the department of architecture at Eindhoven University of Technology in 1975. Following his studies, he worked until 1979 as a research assistant at the same university and established important professional relationships Europe-wide with Prof O.M. Ungers in Cologne, Prof Rob Krier in Vienna, Prof Luigi Snozzi who was then a Professor at the EPFL Lausanne, and Prof James Stirling at the Staatliche Kunstakademie in Düsseldorf, among others. In 1979, before starting his own practice in Eindhoven in 1980, he worked on the new building of the Faculty of Letters in Amsterdam under Prof Aldo van Eyck and architect Theo Bosch. After 10 years, he moved his operation to Maastricht to work on the Céramique master plan. After another 10 years, he opened a branch in Berlin to design the residence of the Dutch ambassador and to work on the Gendarmenmarkt project. This was followed by other studios in Luxembourg (2002), Amsterdam (2002), Milan (2007) and finally Bern (2012).
