Bachelor European Public Health (EPH)
The Bachelor EPH at Maastricht University trains students to tackle today’s biggest health challenges—pandemics, climate change, health inequities, and ageing populations. The Programme prepares young professionals to combine knowledge of health determinants with policies and interventions that shape and protect health across Europe. The Programme gives graduates bachelor-level preparation for impactful careers in governance, management, or policymaking at both national and supranational levels.
During Year 1, students study the EU Treaty and public health, exploring health issues and threats in Member States. Topics include infectious and chronic disease, climate change and health, and pharmaceuticals and medical devices within the EU. Year 2 covers subjects such as demography, migration, ageing and lifestyle factors like diet, exercise and tobacco. In Year 3, students study EU healthcare systems, focusing on health economics, access and quality, as well as WHO/EURO and ECDC policies and their link to EU health institutions in Brussels. Students complete the bachelor with a placement with an organization in Maastricht or abroad as context for writing the bachelor thesis.
