UM campus Brussels expanding and moving
The UM campus in Brussels is expanding and opened a new, larger building on Monday 23 April. Since its launch in 2010, the campus has served as a networking hub and a meeting place for researchers, students and alumni, enabling them to expand their networks and reinforcing UM’s European profile. Education offered on the campus ranges from training courses of one or more days to part-time PhDs for professionals.
New activities
The new building is necessary as the meetings and events in Brussels have rapidly increased in both quality and quantity. More and better facilities are needed to support initiatives such as the new Data Protection Officer Course and the Student Forum Maastricht. Plans are also afoot to expand the education on offer, for example with part-time master’s programmes. Professor Christine Neuhold has been appointed as academic director to investigate the options.
Europe
UM’s focus on employability, too, will be well served by the new campus. Brussels is internationally accessible for students, alumni and companies, making it an ideal place for the faculties, especially Law, Arts & Social Sciences, and Health, Medicine & Life Sciences, to hold workshops, lectures, seminars and other gatherings focused on Europe. And with the European quarter just around the corner, the campus serves as an embassy that strengthens UM’s international network and increases its name recognition among present and future policymakers in the EU.
