UM’s THE and QS rankings

Maastricht University (UM) has been included in two rankings that were published last week. In the 2018 QS Graduate Employability Rankings, UM can be found in the 171–180 range, and UM was ranked at about fifth of the eleven Dutch universities that were assessed. The second ranking is Times Higher Education's Arts & Humanities Subject Ranking. Here, UM achieved a place in the 126–150 range. This was the first time that UM was included in the ranking.

The Employer Reputation is based on the answers given in the annual QS Employer Survey. UM has so far never actively submitted data for this ranking, which means that QS only consulted public data. With regard to the number of graduates that have found full-time or part-time employment within twelve months after graduation (the Graduate Employment Rate), UM scored the best of the eleven Dutch universities ranked. When it comes to successful alumni making all sorts of 'high achiever' lists, UM came in third of the eleven Dutch universities, the same position it achieved in the ‘Employer-student connection’ category. THE categorises its rankings according to subject, for example ‘Business & Economics’, ‘Life Sciences’ and ‘Arts & Humanities’. In the latter category, UM had never figured before, so receiving a mention in the 126–150 region is an excellent first step. Teaching and research – for example in the disciplines of history, philosophy and art – have the most impact, while such matters as citations and internationalisation are also considered.
