SHE welcomes Dr. Liesbeth Baartman
Dr. Liesbeth Baartman is currently working as a professor (lector) at HU University of Applied Sciences Utrecht. Together with dr. Ilya Zitter she co-chairs the research group Vocational Education. She combines research, teaching and teacher professionalisation tasks and specialises in how assessment in vocational and professional education can be integrated with curriculum design and student learning.
Starting February 15th, dr. Baartman will be appointed parttime at the School of Health Professions Education (SHE) and the Department Educational Development and Research of the Faculty of Health Medicine and Life Sciences at Maastricht University. She will also continue her position as a lector at HU University of Applied Sciences Utrecht parttime. We are excited about the possibilities of new collaborations between SHE and HU, building bridges between research and practice and between health sciences education and other professional domains.
Bio:
Liesbeth Baartman has been working as a professor (lector) of vocational education since 2022. She co-chairs the research group Vocational Education, together with dr. Ilya Zitter. This research group focuses on practice-based research, characterized by a participatory and iterative, often design-based approach, working together with professionals from education and professional practice. Due to the participatory nature of Liesbeth’s research, she not only contributes to scientific knowledge development, but also to practical products co-designed with work field stakeholders and teachers.
Liesbeth holds a Doctorate in Educational Sciences from Utrecht University. Her research focuses on assessment, at the intersection with curriculum design and workplace learning. She has an extensive publication record including peer-reviewed articles, books and practical publications. Liesbeth is the co-founder of important networks on assessment, such as the Network Assessment Literacy, focused on teacher professional development and the Programmatic Assessment Network, in which about 25 programmes collaborate on research and implementation. In VET, she co-leads a similar network, with an important focus on assessment during workplace learning. Liesbeth is an active member of the Vereniging Onderwijs Research (VOR; Dutch professional association for educational researchers in the Netherlands and Flanders) and the European Association for Research on Learning and Instruction (EARLI). She is theme coordinator of the Interuniversity Centre for Educational Sciences (ICO). Internationally, Liesbeth collaborates with prof.dr. David Boud and colleagues from the Centre for Research in Assessment and Digital Learning (CRADLE) at Deakin University, Australia, whom she will join for 5 weeks in March/April 2025.
