Postdoc part of ESOF Panel on AI

Last week on 13th July, 2018, Amrapali Zaveri, postdoc at IDS,  was part of a panel on “Increasing Scientific Productivity through Artificial Intelligence” of the EuroScience Open Forum conference.

EuroScience Open Forum (ESOF) is the largest interdisciplinary science meeting in Europe. It is dedicated to scientific research and innovation and offers a unique framework for interaction and debate for scientists, innovators, policy makers, business people and the general public.

"I was invited by Paul Groth, the Disruptive Technology Director at Elsevier Labs to be on this panel. It was my first time being part of such a panel." said Zaveri. The other panelists were Paul himself, Lynda Hardman from the Centrum Wiskunde & Informatica and Thomas Hartung from the Johns Hopkins University, Bloomberg School of Public Health, Dept. of Environmental Health & Engineering.

The format was that each panelist would pitch their thoughts on the topic for 10 minutes followed by discussion with the audience. Her pitch was about two biggest challenges for AI applications: data quality and reproducibility. Here are her slides: https://www.slideshare.net/amrapalijz/esof-panel-2018.

About 40 people were present and contributed to a very interactive and interesting discussion with various questions and interesting insights. Following this panel, there was even a press conference with journalists ! This was a first time for her as well! All in all it was a very interesting experience.
