Lilianne Ploumen meets UM students

On Tuesday 7 March, Dutch Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation Lilianne Ploumen visited UM for a Q&A session with students. The gathering was part of the Ambassador Lecture Series.

Minister Ploumen has recently been in the spotlight after launching ‘She Decides’, a global fundraising initiative set up in response to US President Donald Trump’s ‘Mexico City Policy’. The policy (signed in January 2017) prohibits non-governmental organizations that receive U.S. funds from providing or promoting abortions, as a method of family planning, overseas. The policy also bans these organizations from advocating for the passage of pro-abortion laws in other countries.

In an interactive Q&A session, the Minister addressed why it is important to support women all over the world in making decisions for family planning, and her motivation to launch 'She Decides'. The Minister also talked with the students about the challenges of migration in the Europe of today.
