Keuzegids Masters 2017: UM second best general university again
Maastricht University (UM) has been ranked as the country’s second best general university in the Keuzegids Masters 2017. UM received a score of 62.5, finishing within half a point of the number 1 (Tilburg University). Eight programmes – four more than last year – were designated ‘top study programmes’: Management of Learning (SBE), European Public Affairs (FASoS), Information and Network Economics (SBE), Econometrics and Operations Research (SBE), International and European Tax Law (FL) and the research masters in Cultures of Art, Science and Technology (FASoS), European Studies (FASoS) and Cognitive and Clinical Neuroscience (FPN). This quality label is given only to those programmes that receive a score of 76 or higher in the Keuzegids assessment.
Ten of the 44 UM programmes evaluated came first in their respective categories. Next to 6 of the Top Programmes (Econometrics and Operations Research, and the Research Master European Studies came in second), top positions were reached for Dutch Law, Forensic Psychology, Physician-Clinical Investigator and Health Education Promotion. With a further 15 programmes finishing in either second or third place, a total of 25 UM programmes came in the top three, the same number as last year. Compared to last year, twelve programmes improved their position while 16 dropped one or more places.
The Keuzegids
The Keuzegids Masters rankings are based on student satisfaction scores from the National Student Survey (70%) and assessments by the accreditation organisation NVAO (30%). For more information on the assessment methodology, please visit www.keuzegids.org/methodiek.
In total, more than 750 master’s programmes are evaluated in 10 areas resulting in an overall score between 20 and 100 and a final verdict by the editors of the Keuzegids. A total of 142 programmes receive a final verdict of “++” or “+++” and are thus awarded the label ‘top study programme’.
The Keuzegids Masters is compiled and published by the Centre for Higher Education Information (CHOI) in Leiden. It is available for purchase in stores or online via www.keuzegids.org. UM staff and students can access the Keuzegids Masters free of charge via www.keuzegids.org/ol (click on “Keuzegids Masters”).
