Ilja Arts appointed board member NWO Science Domain
Prof. dr. Ilja Arts, scientific director of the Maastricht Centre for Systems Biology and professor of Molecular Epidemiology of Chronic Diseases, was appointed as board member of NWO's Science Domain.
As of 1 May, prof. dr. Ilja Arts, will start her newly appointed position as board member of the Science Domain at The Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO) for an initial period of three years.
Ilja Arts is Scientific Director of the Maastricht Centre for Systems Biology (MaCSBio) and Principal Investigator at the Cardiovascular Research Institute Maastricht (CARIM), both are Maastricht University research institutes.
Maastricht Centre for Systems Biology (MaCSBio)
Launched in 2015, the Maastricht Centre for Systems Biology (MaCSBio) strives to perform cutting edge research in the interdisciplinary field of Systems Biology to create a “virtual physiological human”, a set of computational and mathematical models based on biological evidence that will help to understand and predict human systems.
Research projects at MaCSBio focus on multi-scale modelling within two complementary research lines tackling areas that are highly relevant for society:
- Systems Medicine of Chronic Diseases
- Computational Biology of Neural and Genetic Systems
The Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research ensures quality and innovation in science and facilitates its impact on society. Its main task is to fund scientific research at public research institutions in the Netherlands, especially universities. NWO focuses on all scientific disciplines and fields of research.
NWO plays several roles as a broad, national research organisation that actively contributes to various elements of national science and innovation policy.
