Harald Merckelbach new dean Faculty of Psychology and Neuroscience

The Executive Board of Maastricht University (UM) has appointed Harald Merckelbach, professor of Forensic Psychology, as dean of the Faculty of Psychology and Neuroscience (FPN). He will begin his first four-year appointment on 1 May 2020. Prof. Dr. Merckelbach is the successor of prof. dr. Anita Jansen, who has been the dean of FPN since 2016.

Prof. Dr. Merckelbach has a long and successful career within FPN. He is a renowned researcher and very visible in the national scientific debate. Not only because of his membership of, for example, the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW), but also because of his columns in the daily newspaper NRC Handelsblad. Furthermore, among other things, Harald Merckelbach is the deputy chairman of the Advisory Committee on Closed Criminal Cases at the Supreme Court of the Netherlands.

Harald Merckelbach says he is elated by the appointment: "Our faculty is full of gifted teachers and talented researchers; it is wonderful to be the dean of such a club.”
