CHILL celebrates 10 years: from linear to circular
Luc Lanclus is a builder, and one with a heart for sustainability and talent. As CEO of the 10-year-old CHILL – Chemelot Innovation and Learning Labs - he connects these themes. His goal? For CHILL to grow over the next 10 years in its function as a connector between education and business, evolving to become the Talent Office of the Euregion, contributing to the success of the first European Circular Hub.
“CHILL was set up in 2011 as a combination of a center of expertise and center for innovative craftsmanship for the chemistry and materials sectors. The center was founded by SABIC, DSM, Leeuwenborgh Education, Arcus College, Zuyd University of Applied Sciences and Maastricht University. The focus at the time was mainly on the laboratory and corresponding training programs. In 10 years, CHILL has become a unique, innovative learning, work and research environment where companies and knowledge institutes work together to develop new knowledge and innovative products and processes. Guided by experienced professionals and instructors, students can learn and work there in Communities for Development on real innovation issues facing Chemelot and Brightlands Chemelot Campus companies as well as local SMEs. CHILL offers startups, multinationals and everything in between accessible research and development opportunities without the high costs of up-to-date equipment, resources and employees. We guarantee that companies presenting us with a research problem will see results. The organization really helps companies make progress. Over the past 10 years, we have seen close partnerships develop. Even companies without a research issue still remain on board.”
