The influence digital platforms have on democratic processes is becoming more evident, both for regular citizens and policymakers. With the Digital Services Act (DSA) in full effect in the EU for a little over a year now, questions remain: How can regulation protect democracy, fundamental rights, and well-being in the digital age?
Studio Europa Maastricht sat down with one of the authors of our new policy brief collection on digitalisation and the EU Digital Services Act – Tsjalling Swierstra, professor of philosophy at Maastricht University – and discussed whether the DSA can effectively protect democracy against the rise of populism.
