Inger Rutten, MA European Studies on Society, Science and Technology

I am from the Netherlands, I obtained a bachelor’s degree in European Studies from Maastricht University and decided to stay in Maastricht for the master’s programme in European Studies on Society, Science and Technology.

The atmosphere at FASoS is really appealing, very informal and international and very small-scale. I really enjoyed that during my bachelor’s studies and decided to stay here for my master’s. There are 22 students in my programme, coming from different cultures and with different nationalities. We all have different backgrounds too, some have a social degree, others a technical degree, some have even held jobs already but in spite of our differences, we form a great group together. So far, the programme is intense, but very satisfying. In that respect, the Open Day provided a realistic picture. And you do get sufficient support when and where you need it from tutors and professors, that is really special. Society, politics and culture influence -but are themselves also influenced by- technology and science. To understand these different actors and how they interact, that’s what this programme is about. I’ve already learned so many useful things, not only as an academic but also as a person.
