"Endovascular treatment of acute ischemic stroke in clinical practice"

The dissertation describes that endovascular treatment for patients with a cerebral infarction by closure of a large cerebral artery is effective in clinical practice. The number of treatments performed in the Netherlands increased. In 2014, the treatment was carried out in 200 patients, in 2016 already in 1250 patients. As a result of national implementation, an additional 170 patients a year will be independent of care provided by others in the Netherlands. In addition to the described effect in the majority of patients, it appears that the endovascular treatment can also offer an advantage in patients with few symptoms or who were already dependent on health care beforehand. Moreover, the treatment is safe in patients who have already been treated for another condition with anticoagulant tablets. Successful results were achieved with the treatment techniques studied, promising for future practice.
