"Revictimisation And False Memory Formation"

This thesis aimed to deepen the current discussions on the matter of revictimisation and false memory formation in the legal field. Coming from issues in unproven cases of child sexual abuse that are likely to be based on false allegations, this thesis assesses: a current dubious case of child sexual abuse based on the current literature of child interviewing and child suggestibility; the credibility of victims of repeated sexual abuse; and false memory formation when being influenced by others and false memory formation for repeated autobiographical events. Relevant to the field of false memory formation, this thesis shows that memories of repeated false autobiographical events could be implanted in lab conditions. Such finding is especially relevant to aid in dubious legal cases of revictimisation in order to avoid miscarriage of justice, and contributes to the current debate on whether or not false memories of repeated events could be elicited.
