Course on Medical Leadership

The Care and Public Health Research Institute (CAPHRI), The Asssociation of Schools of Public Health in the European Region (ASPHER) and The Open Medical Institute (OMI) have joined forces to build a new Public Health Academy. Within this partnership several courses are offered to CAPHRI PhD candidates. From 20 until 26 September 2020 the course 'Medical Leadership' will take place.

Outline course
This seminar is aimed at preparing physicians to assume or advance in leadership roles within their institutions. The course will use Leadership Challenges and Leadership Competencies as a framework for building knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to be an effective physician leader. Didactic sessions and workshops explore several key competencies for physician leaders, including communication styles, influence and negotiation, vision and motivation, delegation and teamwork, strategic planning and stakeholder analysis, and change management. In place of a clinical case presentation, each participant will be asked to bring a specific leadership challenge s/he is facing and will use the seminar’s learnings to inform an approach to that challenge, to be presented at week’s end.

The course is organised by the Children's Hospital of Philidelphia (CHOP).

Location
The course will take place at the Open Medical Institute, Schloss Arenberg, Salzburg, Austria and is open to a maximum of 8 CAPHRI PhD candidates.
