Cees van Dam is Professor of European Tort Law. He is also Professor of International Business and Human Rights at the Rotterdam School of Management and Visiting Professor at the School of Law of King's College London.

Career history

Cees van Dam read law at Utrecht University where he obtained a PhD in 1989 (cum laude). Subsequently worked at the legislative department of the Dutch Ministry of Justice. In 1992, he was appointed Professor of Private Law at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. In 2004, he moved to London where he worked at the British Institute of International and Comparative Law, and as from 2008 at the School of Law of King's College London. In 2014, he took up part time positions at Maastricht University and the Rotterdam School of Management. He remains based in London.

 

His main publications include European Tort Law (2nd edn, OUP, 2013), Enhancing Human Rights Protection. A Company Lawyer's Business (Inaugural Lecture Rotterdam, 2017), and Aansprakelijkheidsrecht (Dutch tort law), 3rd edition, 2019, forthcoming).
