Dr Annemieke Klijn (A.)

Expertise

Annemieke Klijn studied history at the University of Groningen and the Ghent University. She received a research grant from the Dutch Organisation for Scientific Research to write a comparative study about the Belgian and Dutch social democracy (1933-1946). Afterwards she wrote a biography about a catholic socialist from Limburg: Sjeng Tans (1912-1993), one of the main founders of the University Maastricht. Besides she wrote several monographs about the history of the mentally handicapped in Limburg, the history of psychiatry especially during the twentienth century, the history of academic medicine: the University Medical Center Utrecht and the history of Maastricht University.  Klijn teaches on modern history, and on writing and researching.

 

Professional career history

Education: School graduation, gymnasium a Groningen, 1974. PhD: University of Groningen, 8-2-1990. Thesis: Arbeiders- of volkspartij. Een vergelijkende studie van het Belgisch en Nederlands socialisme 1933-1946. Supervisor: prof. dr. E.H. Kossmann. (Workers or people's party. A comparative study of Belgian and Dutch socialism 1933-1946) University of Groningen, 1974-1981 Ghent University, 1980-1981 Research project under supervision of Prof. H. Balthazar, thanks to grant from the Ministry of National Education and Dutch Culture in Brussels. MA in History, 27-11-1981. Modern history and minor in philosophy . Doctoral Thesis; supervisor Prof. E.H. Kossmann. Professional Experience: PhD scholarship Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research.

From 1990 until now working at Maastricht University as an assistant professor (part time) and curator of the Art and Heritage Committee. http://www.art-maastrichtuniversity.nl
