Andre Dekker (A.L.A.J.)

My main work aim is to be a scientist and work on three main research areas:

  1. building global FAIR data sharing infrastructures;
  2. using AI to learn health state prediction models from this data;
  3. applying AI driven prediction models to improve health

Our Clinical Data Science group (40+ members) spans multiple entities including Maastricht University, Maastricht University Medical Centre and MAASTRO Clinic. We work in oncology, fysiotherapy, cardiology, diabetes and alzheimer.

One of our scientific breakthroughs has been the development of a FAIR data sharing and federated learning infrastructure that does not require data to leave the hospital - called the Personal Health Train (www.personalhealthtrain.nl). This has reduced many of the ethical and other barriers to share health data. We have shown this approach works in more than 25 cancer centers worldwide.

I am a full professor of Clinical Data Science and board certified Medical Physicist. My previous positions include Manager of Research and Education, head of IT and head of Medical Physics.

I have published over 150 peer-reviewed publications and patents (h-index 60) and mentored more than 15 PhD studens.
