Dr Wolfgang Giernalczyk (W.)

Wolfgang Giernalczyk is Dean (Department Head / Programme Director) at University College Maastricht (UCM). Before this appointment, he had already gathered experience in educational management by working as interim Managing Director, Director of Education and Curriculum Coordinator at UCM. Next to his managerial tasks, Wolfgang is still actively involved in the education. He acts as an academic advisor, coordinates a course on argumentation, and teaches in the same course as well as in other courses at the College (such as the UCM Think Tank project, for example). In the summer of 2015 he was DAAD visiting fellow at University College Freiburg, teaching the course ‘Argumentation and Critical Reasoning’. As a researcher he has developed a keen interest in international political economy, with a particular focus on the analysis of intergovernmental economic organizations. In line with this, Wolfgang is a fellow of the Institute of Globalization and International Regulation (IGIR) at Maastricht University and wrote his PhD dissertation on the institutional development of the multilateral trade regime.
