My first task is to thank all those members of the MHeNs community who work in patient care at the Maastricht University Medical Centre (MUMC+) and beyond. They have faced a particularly challenging year and did a truly impressive job looking after Covid patients and keeping our hospitals, GP surgeries and … not directly involved in patient care. Because of the necessary restrictions of access to University buildings most work (with the exception of essential lab work and face-to-face patient research) was done at home, and everyone missed the direct contact with colleagues and students. To make up for this, the divisions set up online social gatherings and moved the regular seminar series to online formats as well. The collaborative work in our different research groups actually progressed well … nanoparticles. Two of our academic clinicians, Jacqueline Strik (Psychiatry) and Henny Beckers (Ophthalmology) received professorships.
