Student trainees
Meet the MCEL Student Trainees 2025-2026 below!
Annika Grapow
My name is Annika Grapow, and I started my Traineeship at MCEL in August 2025. My tasks mainly focus on editing work for members of MCEL and for the MCEL Master's Thesis Series. For example, I have had the valuable opportunity of being a part of the editing process for an upcoming book on the European Economic and Monetary Union! This has allowed me to gain significant insights into the different aspects of a career in academia. I am also involved in organisational work, where I draw from my previous experience working in student associations at UM. Thanks to the MCEL Traineeship I have been able to hone my softskills whilst being exposed to current research in the ever-evolving field of EU law. If you are a student passionate about EU law and interested in pursuing a career in academia, this could be just the opportunity you have been looking for!
Yoana Kumanova
Hello! My name is Yoana Kumanova and I have been an MCEL Student Trainee since August 2025. After enrolling in the ELS Master’s programme I wanted to gain practical experience and, as someone fascinated with academia, the traineeship at MCEL felt like the perfect opportunity. This experience has allowed me to engage closely with current EU law developments, to better understand and support the work of academics, and to further develop key skills that can be used in all areas of life. Thanks to this traineeship, I have also had the privilege of meeting and speaking with leading legal scholars from around the world. I am truly grateful for the guidance and encouragement I have received from our professors and the supportive space that I could work in. I would choose this traineeship again without hesitation and would warmly advise enthusiastic students to consider applying!
Emma Sanvito
Hi! I am Emma Sanvito and I have been a trainee for MCEL since August 2025. After graduating in the Bachelor European Law School in Maastricht, I was looking for an opportunity to strengthen my connection with Maastricht University and with research in EU law. That connection is flourishing through the traineeship at MCEL, which is highly valuable to me. The traineeship allows me to follow the latest developments in EU law research by leading scholars, to gain insight into the pivotal role of academics and of research centers, and to develop organizational and communication skills. I am particularly stimulated by my tasks, which include assisting with the fora, the opening event, and visiting researchers. The traineeship is even more meaningful because it is shared with other trainee colleagues. Most importantly, I have always felt warmly welcome in MCEL's vibrant community. I highly encourage motivated students to seek this position!
