Interreg – Grenzeloos in Beweging Project
Around one in ten people experience difficulties with walking or balance. This not only restricts their freedom of movement, but also their independence and ability to participate in social life. Think of older people, those who have suffered a stroke, or children with a congenital brain condition. In rehabilitation care, improving mobility is therefore the most common request for help. But that care is under pressure. An ageing population, a shortage of qualified staff and the need for appropriate care in the right place mean that the prevention, screening and treatment of mobility limitations need to be organised differently.
Grenzeloos Bewegen Project
Movement analysis is often carried out in high-tech laboratories, but it says little about how people function in their everyday environment. Moreover, such laboratories are scarce in the border region. In addition, knowledge is fragmented and difficult for healthcare providers and companies to access. That is why this project brings together healthcare professionals, researchers and companies to focus on three specific target groups: people with mobility limitations following a stroke, people with balance problems and children with cerebral palsy. Together, they are developing and testing measurement protocols, exercises and equipment that can be used in rehabilitation, even in centres without expensive laboratory infrastructure. The high-end movement laboratories in Hasselt (BE) and Maastricht (NL) serve as knowledge centres for the entire Euregional network.
Projectduur – 01/10/2025 tot 30/09/2028
The project not only encourages innovation in new technologies, but also the exchange of knowledge and experience between different healthcare institutions. This helps to spread expertise in mobility care more widely, enabling patients on both sides of the border to access high-quality, accessible care more quickly. At the same time, these collaborations also create opportunities for companies in the region to develop, test and implement care solutions: a boost for both innovation and the economy.
