European Meeting on Human Fear Conditioning (EMHFC)
In a world seemingly more dominated by machine learning, neural networks, algorithms, and large language models, it is more crucial than ever to demystify the "black box" of prediction and focus on understanding causal relationships. Developing robust causal theories and conducting systematic experimentation remain some of the most powerful tools for achieving this understanding. As such, the core principles of the fear conditioning community are poised to remain highly relevant for years to come.
For the 16th edition of the European Meeting on Human Fear Conditioning (EMHFC), we are excited to continue our tradition of providing a platform for young researchers to share their findings through oral presentations and poster sessions. This year, we are introducing a new initiative: fostering open discussions on ongoing debates within the field. To facilitate this, we have added two panel-plenary discussions to the program, creating space for dynamic exchanges of ideas.
Of course, the EMHFC meeting is not only about academic enrichment but also about building connections and fostering community. To that end, we have planned engaging social activities during the evenings, ensuring there are ample opportunities to relax, network, and enjoy the vibrant atmosphere.
We hope this year’s meeting will be as inspiring and impactful as previous years. Welcome to Egmond aan Zee and EMHFC 2025!
