The research mission of the Faculty of Psychology and Neuroscience is to conduct internationally competitive research of top-quality at the frontiers of new developments. Creating and maintaining active partnerships regionally, nationally and internationally. Continue placing emphasis on fundamental cognitive research and method development and to apply this in transdisciplinary collaborations. Research groups at FPN.

Cognitive and biological psychology

The research of the Faculty of Psychology and Neuroscience distinguishes itself from other institutes in the Netherlands by focussing on cognitive and biological psychology.

The faculty has an excellent research infrastructure and places special attention on the social relevancy of its research. This contributed to a high score in the 2012 assessment by the Dutch foundation Quality Assurance Netherlands Universities.

Members of the faculty occupy multiple chairs in highly relevant social fields, such as: Forensic Psychology, Cognitive Neuroscience, Experimental Clinical Psychology, Applied Psychology and Developmental Psychopathology.

Maintaining and expanding research infrastructure

The Faculty of Psychology and Neuroscience invests in ways to maintain and expand its excellent research infrastructure. To date it has 64 laboratories, including state of the art (f)MRI (3.0, 7.0 and 9.4 Tesla apparatus), Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) and Virtual Reality facilities.

Research departments

The faculty conducts its research through its departments: Clinical Psychological Science, Cognitive Neuroscience, Work and Social Psychology and Neuropsychology and Psychopharmacology. They participate in the high regarded research schools F.C. Donders/NICI, Euron, Psychology & Health/EPOS and EPP. 

Graduate School of Psychology and Neuroscience

The Graduate School of Psychology and Neuroscience (GSPN) is an umbrella organisation for all PhD students of the Faculty of Psychology and Neuroscience (FPN), comprising about 90 internal and over 100 external PhD candidates, and still growing. The Graduate School optimises education and training of PhD candidates, facilitating and monitoring the quality and progress of research projects. The School also functions as a cohesive research community for PhD researchers.
