Dr Kees Sterk appointed endowed professor of European Administration of Justice
As from 1 June 2020, dr Kees Sterk has been appointed as endowed professor of European Administration of Justice. The chair has been placed within the Department of Public Law. The purpose of the endowed chair is to increase knowledge regarding the application of European law in a broad sense (including the ECHR) within Dutch case law, including from a comparative law perspective.
Kees Sterk will provide education and initiate research with regard to the institutional embedding and practical application of the core values of the judiciary in member states of the European Union, especially in light of the requirements imposed by EU and ECHR law.
Up until 1 January 2020, Kees Sterk was vice-president of the Netherlands Council for the Judiciary. He has extensive experience as a counsel at the Supreme Court of the Netherlands and at the Court of Appeal of ‘s-Hertogenbosch, and as a judge in the Breda District Court. He is President of the European Network of Councils for the Judiciary. Kees obtained his doctorate from Tilburg University in 1994 and regularly publishes on topics related to case law.
The chair in the European Administration of Justice was previously held by Dr Marc de Werd.
