Many visitors during a reduced Bachelor's Open Day
On Saturday, 14 November, over 3,100 prospective students visited the Maastricht University Bachelor's Open Day. Despite the recent, tragic events in Paris on Friday evening and the stormy weather, there were more visitors than previous years. Because of the events in Paris the programme was altered: the info-sessions began with a minute of silence and the music and the social media interactions were changed.
Visitors were familiarised with various academic programmes and faculties during three rounds, and could get a taste of student life in the city of Maastricht. Also tours of Maastricht and various university buildings were organised in coordination with the Tourist Office.
The students visited many, diverse locations where they received information about not only academic programmes but also application, enrolment, tuition, study and sports facilities, student organisations, and room rentals. Of course students and teachers were on hand everywhere to answer visitor questions, and international visitors were able to pose specific questions to students from their own countries.
In the medical faculty a “student room” was set up where visitors could chill and share experiences with students. New this year was the Walking Dinner organised by student associations: an appetiser, main course and dessert at three different association buildings – with participants walking between each location – where visitors could get to know the major student associations.
The next Open Days are the Master's Open Day on 20 February 2016. For Bachelor’s students there is an Open Day on 12 March.
