UM Faculty of Law and JFC Brunssum pledge to increase cooperation
On 25 November, a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between JFC Brunssum (JFCBS) and the University of Maastricht was signed by Commander JFCBS, General Erhard Bühler, and the Dean of the Law Faculty, Professor Jan Smits. This document codifies the relationship that already exists between JFCBS and the University of Maastricht, Faculty of Law, and serves to encourage increased cooperation on topics of international humanitarian law, human rights law and European law.
The MOU is a symbol of shared intent to strengthen the relationship JFCBS enjoys with local academic institutions. Law students from Maastricht University regularly conduct internships with the legal department at JFCBS for periods of up to four months and an international law seminar took place last year that was jointly organised by JFCBS and the university. The MOU lays the framework to continue such cooperative practices but also explore new ways to assist each other, for example, by regularly providing JFCBS speakers within the legal curriculum.
