Maastricht University ranked 201-250 for Computer Science
We are happy to share that this year, Maastricht University placed #201-250 out of 1000 universities worldwide in the 2018 Times Higher Education Computer Science subject ranking. With Computer Science mostly represented in UM by the Department of Data Science and Knowledge Engineering, this ranking is a great indicator of how much has been achieved by DKE in just 25 years since its establishment.
The ranking was based on factors such as Citations, Industry Income, International Outlook, Research and Teaching. UM received excellent scores in terms of Citations and International Outlook and very good marks for Industry Income - this is also supported by our alumni, who are spread all around the world with high-income positions in private and public institutions.
DKE is celebrating its 25th anniversary this academic year - it started out as a small unit in the Faculty of Humanities and Sciences with under 100 students. Since then, it has been growing steadily as Data Science, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning have become more prominent and important in the modern technology-driven world. Nowadays DKE's three programmes welcome over 400 students, who conduct their own research, develop their own software and continue to innovate in their field. This is why, for the first time, DKE places Maastricht University #201-250 in Computer Science. We are proud of this result and will continue to improve in the years to come.
