Jean Monnet Guest Lecture on Why European Political Values Matter in Times of Geopolitical Upheaval
On 7 April, the third Jean Monnet Lecture organised by the Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence on Crises and Emergencies in EU Integration (EmergEU) took place at the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences.
Rein Dekkers, Special Representative for the EU Eastern Partnership, considered the importance of democracy, freedom, and the rule of law in an era of geopolitical upheaval during his lecture, titled Defending our way of life. Why European political values matter in times of geopolitical upheaval. Rein Dekkers explained how during challenges like the Ukraine conflict, rising authoritarianism, and global crises, the EU must defend these principles to protect its way of life and strengthen its role on the global stage. This talk further highlighted the importance of collective action and resilience in preserving Europe's democratic future.
