Interested in exploring Extended Reality in education with UM colleagues? Join the UM XR community
Are you considering different ways to approach educational challenges in your teaching? Across UM, colleagues are experimenting with a range of approaches, including extended reality (XR), to explore how particular learning goals might be supported in new ways.
If you are interested in learning from these experiences or reflecting together on when and how such approaches may be meaningful, this is a good moment to connect.
- The XR community webpage brings together insights from educational projects at UM, including work on VR-enhanced PBL, as well as information about available facilities, support structures across faculties, and relevant events at local, regional, and national levels.
You are also welcome to join the UM XR community, where colleagues exchange ideas and experiences via a Teams channel and meet several times a year, often around shared educational questions or ongoing initiatives. The next meeting will take place on 16 April in the Inner-city Library Digital Lab. If you would like to participate, please email Gaby Lutgens and we will send you an Outlook invitation.
Learning from broader educational developments
Beyond UM, higher education institutions are engaging in joint reflection on how emerging technologies, including XR, may contribute to addressing shared educational challenges. Since 2024, this exchange has been part of the Npuls programme Continued High-Quality Education. By joining the national XR community, you can learn from experiments and perspectives at other institutions.
Together with faculty and support staff, Npuls has developed a framework to support educators and institutions in considering the potential role of XR in their educational contexts. The framework addresses themes such as policy and infrastructure, devices and applications, the design and management of XR labs, and instructional design when immersive technologies are integrated into courses or learning tasks.
The XR labs currently available at UM draw on this framework to continuously develop their services in response to evolving educational needs.
Note: The Dutch version of the Npuls XR community page contains additional content.
