Inaugural lecture by prof.dr. Maja Brkan
On 29 November 2024, MCEL member Maja Brkan, Judge at the General Court of the European Union, gave her inaugural lecture on 'Digitalisation and EU fundamental rights: the good, the bad and the opaque'. The lecture followed Dr Brkan's appointment as endowed professor of Digitalisation and EU Law by the UM’s Executive Board.
The inaugural lecture traced the rapid evolution of generative artificial intelligence, casting light on its profound impact on the rights, recognised under the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights. It reflected on how high-risk AI systems as defined in the new AI Act interacted with selected fundamental rights.
As Professor of Digitalisation and EU Law, Maja will contribute to the further development and teaching of our courses in the field of digitalisation and EU law, give guest lectures and supervise Master theses, embedding her practical experiences into teaching and research.
