Improved survival after kidney transplantation: revolutionary assay developed by VitaK

VitaK Innovation in Life Science, a spin-off from Maastricht University, has succeeded in developing a prototype of a new medical diagnostics device, called TransCare. TransCare is an in vitro diagnostic (IVD) system allowing to quantify a protein that is formed during vitamin K insufficiency. This so-called Protein Induced by Vitamin K Absence (PIVKA) is a strong risk factor for allograft failure and death of the kidney transplant recipient. The test requires only one drop of blood and is completed within 5 minutes.
