How old is the Prinsjesdag suitcase?
Today is Prinsjesdag. The day when traditionally the national budget is presented to the Lower House by the Minister of Finance in the most famous suitcase in the Netherlands. But how old is the briefcase on Prinsjesdag?
"There are actually two answers to that," explains Bert van der Braak, professor of parliamentary history at Maastricht University, "In 1946, Minister Lieftinck introduced the briefcase. But in the 1950s the recognizable object disappeared briefly. In 1963, the briefcase was reintroduced."
