Develop and connect with Match

Student facilities

Personal growth and contributing to the local community during your studies, that is what Match is all about. This initiative offers students from Maastricht University volunteering opportunities where community engagement is a key component. This way, students can grow personally and professionally, all while expanding their network. For international students, Match is also a great opportunity to get more involved with the local community.

This academic year, Match focuses on Brighter Futures, a programme in which students from Maastricht University tutor struggling secondary school students. Project coordinator Jasmijn George and her student assistant Lisa van Eijk support the students through coaching sessions and workshops.

Esmée Groot was one of the student tutors. “Secondary school can be a challenging time for many young people. That is why I wanted to lend a helping hand. In addition to coaching and support, you offer a listening ear. Together, you come up with solutions to problems and ultimately, you try to help the pupil realise that they are capable of finding solutions themselves. Meanwhile, you learn a lot and grow both socially and professionally. That is the beauty of it. You offer someone something meaningful and get something wonderful in return. Plus, it's just really enjoyable!”
