Bert Kip on the NWO-AES board
Bert Kip, CEO of the Brightlands Chemelot Campus, has been appointed to the board of the NWO domain Applied and Engineering Sciences (NWO-AES). This body of the Dutch Research Council is dedicated to promoting technical-scientific research with application and impact for people and society. On the Brightlands Chemelot Campus, UM scientists and entrepreneurs work together in ninety companies and institutes.
Kip's appointment was ratified by the NWO board of directors on 4 November. The chemist has been CEO of the Brightlands Campus at the Chemelot chemistry complex in Sittard-Geleen since 2012. Everything there revolves around research into (bio)circular chemistry as a basis for the development of high-quality materials, chemical processes with lower CO2 emissions and biomedical solutions. Kip: "It is a major task and challenge to use the excellent knowledge positions of the Dutch knowledge institutes to contribute to the future earning capacity and prosperity of the Netherlands. The role of the NWO-AES is indispensable in this".
Kip started his career at DSM, where he was active in the research department and led DSM Resolve. Later he was director of the Maastricht Forensic Institute and initiator and chairman of the board of TI-COAST, the public-private partnership in the field of analytical sciences.
