In Memoriam: 2022

We are not only looking ahead to what 2023 will bring us, we are also thinking of the colleagues and students who passed away in 2022, of the sadness and emptiness they left behind among their families, friends, colleagues and fellow students.

Vic Bonke, 14 February 2022

Vic was former Rector Magnificus of Maastricht University and Dean of the Faculty of Medicine. He joined the university in 1975 as lecturer in vegetative physiology, and was one of the first to put the university on the map.

Jacques Reiners, 14 April 2022

Jacques worked at Maastricht University from 1978 upon his retirement in 2018. He served as head of Studium Generale (SG) from 1980.

Ruud Kempen, 30 August 2022

Ruud started working at Maastricht University in 1998 as associate professor at the Department of Medical Sociology. As professor of Social Gerontology he transferred to the Department of Health Care & Nursing Science in 2008.

William Rogers, 17 September 2022

As an early-stage researcher, Will was part of the PREDICT consortium, a Marie Skłodowska-Curie innovative training network. In 2019 he joined the department of Precision Medicine at Maastricht University.

Kees Dejong, 21 October 2022

Kees was Professor of Hepato Pancreato Bilial Surgery at the azM/MUMC+ and held the role of Head of the Division of Gastrointestinal and Oncological Surgery from 2008 to 2018. He also served as Vice Chairman of the Department of Surgery from 2007-2009.

Frans van Wijmen, 18 November 2022

Frans was professor of health law from 1981 to 2006 with the then Faculty of Health Sciences and the Faculty of Law. He was also administrative advisor to the Academic Hospital Maastricht.

Dominika was a second year student in the European Law School bachelor's programme at the Faculty of Law.

Joep was associated with Maastricht University from 1982 to 2013 and founding father of the Department of Clinical Genetics at Maastricht UMC+.
