Maastricht University at TEFAF
From 15 to 20 March, The European Fine Art Fair (TEFAF) will take place in Maastricht. Some 270 galleries from more than 20 countries will showcase prestigious works of art.
TEFAF is not only visited by art dealers from all over the world, but also has a magnetic attraction for art lovers, academics and students who have an interest in the artworks on display as well as the art world.
Maastricht University (UM) is organising the following events at this year's TEFAF:
- Friday 14 March, 08:30 - 13:30
The Art Business Conference returns to TEFAF with a half-day conference, followed by entrance to the fair during the Collectors Preview. Professor Rachel Pownall will be on the panel on AI for Art Market Stakeholders.

Sunday 16 March, 15.30 - 16.30
On Sunday 16 March, Professor Rachel Pownall will welcome students from the current cohort of the Executive Master in Cultural Leadership and alumni. The Head of Collections, Rebecca Lyons will also join. Professor Rachel Pownall is the founding director of the Executive Master in Cultural Leadership, a master's programme run by UM and developed in collaboration with the Royal Academy of Arts in London. Those interested in the executive master's programme can stop by the Chapeau/Maastricht region booth (#811) if they would like to talk to Rachel or the current students. There will be an alumni reunion this year at the Chapeau Stand. The students are in Maastricht until Sunday, 23 March.
Monday 17 March, 18.30 - 19.00
Professor Rachel Pownall's second reception will take place on Monday 17 March during the TEFAF Summit. Rachel will be on the Morning Panel - Funding the Future: Building Trust and Collaboration. Those interested in the executive master's programme can stop by the Chapeau/Maastricht region booth (#811) if they would like to talk to Rachel or the current students.
Tuesday 18 March
In cooperation with Brightlands, we will organise the event ‘Sustainable Chemistry Meets Arts’ for the third time in a row during TEFAF. Together with UM Professor Yvonne van der Meer (also President Royal Dutch Chemistry Association -KNCV), we welcome board members of various chemistry associations and dive into a world of innovation on the Brightlands Chemelot Campus.

As part of the cultural programming during ‘TEFAF in the City’, Maastricht Marketing will offer exhibitors and visitors to TEFAF a guided tour of two of our university buildings (Law Faculty and Administration Building). The tours will start and end at the Dinghuis and can be booked online.

Studium Generale is organising a TEFAF lecture entitled: ‘Expensive and Avant Garde Jokes of Silver from the Dutch Republic’ in the Auditorium of Minderbroedersberg 4-6. The speaker will be Prof Stijn Bussels.

- Curator’s course
For the second time, UM and TEFAF are organising the ‘Curator's course’. The programme was set up by Professor Rachel Pownall (UM) and Paul van den Biesen (TEFAF). It brings together academia and the art world and gives (future) curators and museum directors an exceptional opportunity to gain expertise, insight, and a network. Participants will learn from established colleagues, members of the TEFAF Vetting Community, and renowned art dealers. Wim Pijbers, Director of the 'Droom and Daad Foundation', Sarah William, Head of Development of the National Portrait Gallery, and Anders Petterson from ArtTactic will join.
Thursday, 20 March – Friday, 21 March
On 20 and 21 March, a 2-day symposium is organised to explore material developments and new paradigms in the creation, preservation, and conservation of arts and heritage. Regenerate! is organised by the Jan van Eyck Academie and Maastricht University in celebration of the 10th anniversary of the Maastricht Centre for Arts and Culture, Conservation and Heritage (MACCH) and on the occasion of the Re-Launch of the Future Materials Lab.
