Marie Gabenisch (M.)
Marie Gabenisch started her PhD at Maastricht University in July 2024. Her research focuses on ethnographically accounting for the "dark number", i.e. crimes that go undetected or unreported.
Her PhD in Criminology is part of COMCRIM, an innovative, public-private and interdisciplinary project, aimed at detecting organised crime in unconventional data sources such as banking records, follow the money and discern criminal networks. Marie is supervised in her research by Prof. Dr. Mr. Drs. Jill Coster van Voorhout (Maastricht University) and Dr. Yarin Eski (Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam).

Marie holds Master’s degrees in International Relations from Sciences Po Bordeaux, in Empirical Social and Political Research from the University of Stuttgart (2017-2022) and in Counter-Terrorism and Homeland Security from Reichman University (2022-2023). She developed her taste for societally impactful research in the security/safety field at the United Nations Counter-Terrorism Committee Executive Directorate (CTED) and the International Institute for Counter-Terrorism (ICT).
